Program Overview – Family Settlement, Community Programs
The Entrepreneurship Counsellor will be responsible for providing counseling and support services to individuals who are starting or running their own businesses. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, be a good listener, and have the ability to provide sound advice and guidance to clients. The Entrepreneurship Counsellor will have a strong understanding of the needs of newcomer women.
What You Will Do
- Provide counseling and support services to individuals who are starting or running their own businesses.
- Develop and implement action plans to help clients start and or grow their businesses.
- Provide guidance and advice on business planning, marketing, sales, financial management, and funding.
- Conduct market research to help clients identify potential customers and market opportunities.
- Connect clients with local resources and networks to help them grow their businesses.
- Connect clients with mentors to expand their social and professional networks
- Organize and deliver innovative opportunities for clients to showcase their entrepreneurial ideas
- Continuously evaluate and improve counseling services to meet the changing needs of clients.
- Provide workshops and training sessions on business-related topics.
- Organize networking events for program participants
- Develop and maintain relationships with local business organizations and stakeholders to promote entrepreneurship counseling services and identify new counseling opportunities.
- Provide settlement support to newcomer clients, including clients not receiving entrepreneurship support
- Perform case management duties, which include assessment, goal setting and the development of action/settlement plans with clients, ongoing intervention, re-assessment, referral, and follow up.
- Conduct in person, online, social media, and phone-based outreach activities to attract and screen clients for program.
- Identify barriers to learning and/or employment and refers participants to the appropriate source of support.
- Support the tracking of training participants’ status and results.
- Maintain detailed notes of client interaction, enter and manage data in online client records, and collects statistical data.
- Responsible for the confidentiality of information.
- Ensure anti-racism objectives and community development principles of the organization are achieved.
What You Bring to The Team
- University degree in the field of Business, Entrepreneurship, Education, Finance, Marketing or related field of study.
- 2-3 years of experience in providing successful entrepreneurship counseling services.
- At least one year of experience delivering remote training (e.g. webinar, pre-recorded audio, video, online training)
- Experience working with newcomers, low-income or marginalized populations
- Bilingual English- and one of the following: Persian/Farsi/Dari; Bengali; Tamil; Amharic; Arabic, Proficient language skills in order to work in both languages.

- Demonstrated experience in case management and supportive counselling
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including instructional and presentation skills with experience performing train-the-Counsellor type sessions and direct workshop program delivery.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with a focus on motivational skills and positive attitude.
- Ability to use MS Teams to deliver training and counselling sessions.
- Excellent problem-solving aptitude to troubleshoot technological issues for participants
- Hands-on knowledge of desktop applications, including Microsoft office products.
- Ability to conduct research into course development and delivery concepts, as well as technical software issues.
- Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.
- Highly self-motivated and self-directed.
