Program Overview |
The Clinical Counsellor is a member of the Supportive Housing Programs (SH) department and is accountable to the Manager of Supportive Housing Programs. The SH department provides support for people with mental health and/or substance use issues, including concurrent disorders and dual diagnosis within an anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, harm reduction and mental health recovery frameworks. |

General Program:

- Masters of Social Work (M.S.W.) or post graduate degree in a relevant field. Registered Social Worker (R.S.W.) in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) and/or Member in good standing with a Professional College in Ontario. Or be a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO)
- Minimum of 3 years related experience in addressing homelessness, mental health, addictions, and/or social work. Demonstrated experience offering therapeutic and psycho-social counselling (both short term and long term) and supporting individuals with significant mental health and substance use issues from a harm reduction, trauma informed, and mental health recovery approach is required.
- Demonstrated ability in supporting individuals who have complex mental health and/or addiction issues, history of trauma, violence/abuse, chronic physical health issues, etc.
- Proven working knowledge of theories of addiction, evidence-based treatment models and best practice approaches.
- Knowledge of, experience with, and demonstrated ability in providing therapeutic interventions, such as Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-Informed approaches, etc.
- Knowledge and experience providing individual and group-based counseling and support is required.
- Knowledge of and experience with facilitating DBT-focused therapeutic groups is required.
