Program Overview – Mental Health & Addictions Program, Community Care Unit
The Walk-in Counselling Program is an innovative mental health resource that provides immediate, free access to high-quality clinical counselling to a diverse client population. This Program offers an immediate, free counselling session to adults, couples, families, and youth on a walk-in basis, serving clients at their chosen time of need.  The counselling service addresses a multitude of emotional / behavioural / social concerns, many serious and acute, with no restrictions based on age or catchment area.

The Youth Outreach Team is a collaborative project between Michael Garron Hospital and WoodGreen Community Services, funded by the Slaight Family Foundation. This team provides outreach services to aid and uplift youth from the ages of 16-29 with complex mental health and/or substance use concerns in East Toronto. This position works on behalf of WoodGreen Community Services and is responsible for launching, operations, evaluation, and growth of a new community-based service for youth.

What You Will Do
  • Develop and update program manuals/protocols, and materials to ensure compliance with organizational, funder-specific, and accreditation standards and requirements.
  • Coordinate scheduling of staff and volunteers to ensure sufficient coverage for Walk-In Counseling.
  • Implement ongoing promotion/awareness building of program and related programs with the immediate and broader community, in conjunction with communications department.
  • Identify and implement mechanisms for community and client input to support organizational quality improvement measures and foster ongoing enhancement of the program.
  • Identify and actively participate in existing and new partnership initiatives to enhance the program and promote its reach and sustainability.
  • Engage in active outreach and stakeholder engagement to support development of the community of practice/network.
  • Complete statistical reports and submissions and maintain all records and forms regarding visits and program/activity enrollment, using a client information database in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and monitor program financial information, support development of funding proposals and develop and oversee WIC and YOT budgets and ensure it is adhered to.
  • Initiate, develop, and facilitate implementation of the evaluation framework for the program.
  • Support program development and evaluation activities to plan and implement new services and initiatives that build on and enhance the objectives of the program.
  • Provide clinical oversight, ongoing orientation, supervision, performance management, mentorship, training, and support to staff, volunteers, and students in the program.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, Collective Agreement, and legislative requirements.
  • Ensure that the equity objectives and community development policies of the organization are achieved within the program.
  • Monitor staff performance targets and data quality annually by regularly reviewing documentation in client management systems, calls reports, statistics, and consultation with staff.
  • Follow up with referral source(s) to assess program eligibility, confirm receipt of referral, obtain additional information to support client care, and/or offer information on alternative sources of support if the client is deemed ineligible for the program.
  • Identify and actively participate in existing and new partnership initiatives to enhance the program and promote its reach and sustainability, as required.
  • Participate in system-level networks on behalf of WoodGreen and MGH.
What You Bring to the Team
  • M.S.W or Graduate degree in Psychology or graduate degree in related Field.
  • Member in good standing with Professional College in Ontario.
  • 5+ years of clinical experience in mental health and/or substance use sector and demonstrated ability to develop effective services for individuals and communities facing these challenges.
  • 5+ years of progressive leadership experience, in a unionized environment.
  • Personal knowledge and lived/living experience of issues that affect communities and populations served by WoodGreen is a strong asset
  • Meet the requirements to clinically supervise graduate-level students, Registered Social Workers and Registered Psychotherapists under the respective Colleges is preferred
  • Experience with supervising Peer Support Workers would be a strong asset
  • Demonstrated commitment to principles of social justice, anti-oppression, anti-racism, equity and inclusion
What Will Set You Apart
  • Demonstrated experience working within and/or supervising an interdisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated ability in supporting youth who have complex mental health and/or substance use issues, history of trauma, violence/abuse, chronic physical health issues, etc.
  • Comprehensive understanding and knowledge of mental health, addictions, children & youth, health sector, and community resources.
  • Knowledge of, experience with, and demonstrated ability in providing therapeutic interventions, such as Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-Informed approaches, etc.
  • Proven working knowledge of theories of addiction, evidence-based treatment models and best practice approaches.
  • Ability to demonstrate an anti-oppression approach to practice and work from a client-centered, anti-racism, harm reduction, and trauma informed approach is required.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of issues affecting marginalized communities, policies, legislation, programs, and other issues related to scope of practice and social determinants of health.
  • Experience working with diverse and marginalized communities, including ethno-cultural and religious groups, LGBTQSS+ youth and youth adults, those impacted by poverty and those involved in youth justice.
  • Demonstrated ability to respond to crisis situations promptly and professionally while adhering to ethical and legal responsibilities.
  • Experience providing individual and/or group clinical supervision.
  • Experience in program development and evaluation.
  • Ability to develop, foster and maintain partnerships and develop and implement community development initiatives.
  • Strong organizational, leadership skills, team building skills, and strategic planning.
  • Experience in supervising staff, students, and volunteers.
  • Thorough knowledge of community resources
