Program Overview – Homeward Bound & Neighbourhood Programs
The program includes many components: career development and life skills, academic upgrading and computer training, and a college diploma program.  There is also an internship component and access to sustainable employment opportunities. Homeward Bound also offers on-site childcare, family support, and an after-4 program for school-aged children.

What You Will Do
  • Use professional case management practices and a variety of clinical modalities to perform casework duties which include assessment, goal setting and the development of action plans with clients, ongoing intervention, re-assessment, case termination, and follow-up.
  • Coordinate client participation in all aspects of the Homeward Bound program, including liaising with Community Colleges and academic upgrading providers to ensure participant enrolment and full participation in programs and on-the-job training experiences such as field placements and internships.
  • Ensure that all clients prioritize meeting program goals and milestones.
  • Responsible for liaising and coordination with Toronto Children Services and Toronto Employment and Social Services.
  • Provide instrumental help to assist the women in resolving functional problems of daily living, provide advocacy, and facilitate access to appropriate support services such as health care, budget planning/financial management, and housing help.
  • Identify barriers to learning and refer participants to the appropriate source of support.
  • Respond to emergencies, provide crisis intervention, and maintain a caseload.
  • Maintain client records in a centralized database by program policy.
  • Collect statistical data according to central and unit policies. Assist in overseeing the safety of the children on off-site trips and in the on-site space (March break, PA Days, Summer break).
  • Work by all relevant legislation, by-laws, program, and organizational policies.

What You Bring to the Team
  • Masters of Social Work or Masters Degree in related field. Bachelor's Degree in Social Work with related experience could be considered. 
  • Registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers or its equivalent is required.
  • Minimum two (2) years of related work experience with women who have experienced homelessness, violence, or related issues at a case management level and employment planning and preparation work.

  • Demonstrated case management and group facilitation skills.
  • Strong knowledge of career planning and job search techniques.

  • Demonstrated intervention skills, including crisis intervention.
  • Demonstrate an ongoing self-reflection to ensure best practices in service delivery.
  • Social assessment skills.
  • Knowledge and skills in conflict resolution.
  • Well-developed and timely documentation skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including internet research.
  • Knowledge of community development and skills in using and referring to social resources.
  • Collaboration and teamwork skills are essential.
  • Able to work under pressure.
  • Demonstrated experience working with clients from diverse communities.
  • Understanding of anti-oppressive practices and trauma-informed approach. 
  • Lived experience as a member of the BIPOC community or other experiences of social identity intersectionality.
